Asheville Glamping Part II

It is an easy five-hour drive from the oceans of SE South Carolina to the mountains of SW North Carolina – Asheville. We do it often, especially in the heat of summer. This time it was glamping re-visited. Last time we were in a dome. This time we were in a tiny house. The place is called The Glamping Collective. It can be found 20 miles west of downtown Asheville in Clyde, NC and it boasts Tiny houses

not only tiny houses

but also, number of geodomes

and all with exceptional views.

But my dogs did not seem too excited.

The place was new, well-done and really nice. The only but being, it is not the optimal place for dogs. There are some serious grades on the hillsides so keeping you dogs on the leash is recommended. Not what we promised them. And the ticks in early May in Clyde were intense. Them and us! However, the trails were great and well-marked.

Days in Asheville with the dogs were rejuvenating. A walk in the French Broad River Park was splendid. Reminds one of walking around Town Lake in Austin, TX

Many places for Labradors to swim and there was of course, the dog park.

Yes, a stop at 12 Bones in the River Arts District was required. It was 2010 when Barack and Michelle (need I mention last names?) came by for the second time and enjoyed the ribs.

The food remains as mouthwatering as ever. Be forewarned. They are closed on weekends.

For another perspective, check out New York Times “36 Hours in Ashville”. In their words,” Art lovers, hikers, connoisseurs of Southern cuisine and explorers of up-and-coming neighborhoods will find much to savor in this scenic city nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains.”

Yes, there is traffic. Yes, it is more expensive than before but what isn’t?  But Asheville remains a great long weekend for those of us on the edge of Hilton Head. Next time I’ll play some golf. Maybe the elevation will add some distance to my driver.
